Early Years

Hi, I am Miss Smith! Welcome to Early Years at Longwill.

We are proud to provide a nurturing, language-rich and exciting environment where our Deaf children can thrive, grow and develop a love of learning from the very beginning of their educational journey.

We understand that every child is unique and arrives with their own strengths, experiences and communication preferences. Throughout the day, we use British Sign Language (BSL), spoken language, visual supports and play-based learning to help children make sense of the world around them and become confident communicators.

Learning Through Play Learning in Early Years is practical, engaging and child-centred. Children learn through play, exploration, stories, creative activities, outdoor learning and hands-on experiences.

Forest School takes place every Tuesday and PE lessons take place every Wednesday. Above all, we want our classroom to feel like a happy, welcoming place where every child is encouraged to shine.

Our creative curriculum includes drawing and soap carving in Art, while in Design and Technology we design and build bridges, as well as learn how to prepare healthy meals.

Our Oldest Pupils Year 6 children are encouraged to become confident, independent learners who demonstrate responsibility, resilience and kindness, preparing them for a successful transition to secondary school.
