Key Information
Attendance
At Longwill, we are working towards becoming an Inclusive Attendance School, placing attendance at the heart of our commitment to pupil wellbeing, achievement, and school improvement. We recognise that regular attendance is particularly important for Deaf children, supporting language development, communication skills, academic progress, friendships, and emotional wellbeing.
Every day in school matters. Deaf children can miss vital opportunities for language acquisition, communication development, and social interaction when they are absent. These experiences cannot always be easily replicated at home and are essential in helping children reach their full potential.
Every day in school matters — supporting language development, communication, learning, friendships and emotional wellbeing.
Our attendance approach is child-centred, evidence-informed, and focused on recognising personal growth and collective success. Rather than simply rewarding high attendance percentages, we celebrate pupils who demonstrate significant improvements in attendance through our awards assemblies and whole-school celebrations.
This term, our whole-school attendance is currently 90.2%. Whilst we are proud of the progress many pupils have made, we know there is still work to do. A child attending school for only 90% of the academic year will miss approximately 19 days of school. This is equivalent to almost four weeks of learning.
Supporting Every Child to Thrive Attendance data is monitored regularly by senior leaders, safeguarding staff, and pastoral teams to identify patterns, remove barriers, and provide support where needed. Through a graduated and supportive approach, aligned with Department for Education and Birmingham City Council guidance, we work closely with families to ensure that every child has the best possible opportunity to attend, achieve, and thrive.
Together, we can ensure that every day counts.
