Religious Education

At Longwill School for Deaf Children, Religious Education (RE) is taught through the Maestro Cornerstones Love to Celebrate curriculum, which supports the programme of study set by our local Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE).

Understanding Faith, Culture and Belonging

Through RE, pupils develop respect, tolerance and understanding whilst exploring the beliefs, traditions and values that shape communities around the world.

World Religions

Pupils explore Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism and Buddhism through engaging and meaningful learning experiences.

Festivals & Celebrations

Learning is centred around significant festivals and celebrations, helping children understand different faiths, cultures and traditions.

Enquiry & Reflection

Pupils ask thoughtful questions, make personal connections and reflect on their learning through enquiry-based activities.

The Cornerstones Approach

Religious Education is delivered through the Maestro Cornerstones Love to Celebrate curriculum. Each project follows the Cornerstones learning process, enabling pupils to build knowledge and deepen their understanding over time.

Engage • Develop • Innovate • Express

This structured approach encourages pupils to become curious learners who explore beliefs, traditions and celebrations in an engaging and meaningful way.

Respect and Understanding

Through RE, pupils develop respect, tolerance and understanding of others while exploring themes such as belief, identity, community and belonging.

Learning about different faiths and worldviews helps children appreciate diversity, recognise similarities and differences, and understand the importance of mutual respect in modern society.

Our RE Aim

We aim to develop thoughtful, respectful and informed learners who are curious about the world around them and who value the diversity of beliefs, cultures and traditions that make up our communities.
