Curriculum Subject

RPHSE

At Longwill, we deliver a comprehensive Relationship, Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education curriculum that supports pupils’ personal development, emotional wellbeing and understanding of healthy relationships.

Supporting the Whole Child

RPHSE helps pupils develop self-awareness, resilience, empathy and respect for others, supporting them to become confident and responsible members of their communities.

Wellbeing

Pupils learn about emotional literacy, mental health, self-regulation and the strategies they need to manage everyday challenges.

Relationships

Children explore healthy relationships, belonging, respect, diversity and how to build positive connections with others.

Confidence

The curriculum supports pupils to understand themselves, make safe choices and develop the confidence to thrive in school and beyond.

A Progressive Curriculum

Through a progressive, age-appropriate programme, pupils explore key themes including belonging, emotional literacy, mental health, relationships, diversity, safety, aspirations and healthy lifestyles.

Regular opportunities for reflection, discussion and collaborative learning help pupils develop positive behaviour, emotional regulation and the skills needed to navigate everyday challenges both in school and beyond.

RPHSE gives pupils regular opportunities to reflect, discuss, collaborate and develop the skills they need for everyday life.

Rights, Respect and Responsibility

As a Gold Rights Respecting School, RPHSE helps our children understand their rights and responsibilities, value diversity and become confident, respectful members of their community.

Pupils are encouraged to recognise the importance of respect, inclusion and equality, helping them understand how their choices and actions can positively contribute to school life and the wider world.

Children learn to understand their rights, respect the rights of others and value diversity within their community.

Safe, Heard and Valued

As a Trauma-Informed, Attachment-Aware School, we use RPHSE to support emotional literacy, self-regulation, resilience and positive relationships, ensuring all pupils feel safe, heard and valued.

The curriculum includes the statutory Relationships and Health Education requirements and is adapted to meet the communication and learning needs of Deaf children.

Through accessible teaching, discussion and reflection, pupils are empowered with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in school and beyond.

Our RPHSE Aim

Through RPHSE, we support pupils to become confident, resilient and respectful young people who understand themselves, value others and are equipped with the skills they need for happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.
